CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS — This month, IEMI’s Executive Faculty Director Andrew Crespo delivered the keynote address to the Harvard Law School Celebration of Latino Alumni, a multi-day event held on Harvard’s campus. Crespo, the Morris Wasserstein Public Interest Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, was the first Latino promoted to a tenured position on the law school’s faculty.
In his keynote, Crespo describes the origins of mass incarceration and what led him to found the Institute to End Mass Incarceration after becoming a tenured professor at Harvard Law School.
He also explained IEMI’s ongoing efforts to address mass incarceration — root and branch — by supporting active anticarceral campaigns, fostering innovative thought, and training future lawyers. Alumni in attendance responded enthusiastically with engaging questions about how lawyers across the profession can support IEMI’s mission and help create a world without mass incarceration.
