ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA — Last week, IEMI Policy Fellow Corinne Shanahan facilitated a panel on media access in prisons and prison censorship as part of No Exceptions for Slavery: Abolishing the 13th Amendment Loophole, a legal symposium organized by the End Slavery in Minnesota coalition.
The panel featured journalists, writers, and free press advocates — some of whom are currently incarcerated — including Jeremy Busby, Christopher Blackwell, Jermaine Ferguson, Brandon Cox, Paul Wright, and Seth Stern. Corinne opened the event with an introduction written by Kwaneta Harris, writing from prison in Texas.
IEMI continues to conduct public education about prison censorship and media access behind bars as part of our Exposing Prisons Project, an effort to expose what’s really happening inside American prisons — including forced labor and exploitation — by focusing on the reporting that makes that possible.
