Sydney Thomas

Sydney Thomas is a law student, abolitionist, and aspiring public defender originally from Dardenne Prairie, Missouri. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2020 and has worked at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, the ACLU of Maryland, the Volunteer Lawyers Project, Restorative Response Baltimore and Boston Centers for Youth and Family. In her work, she has focused on incorporating an abolitionist lens, both in legal and community settings. Sydney is a part of the Prison Legal Assistance Project, where she represents incarcerated people in disciplinary hearings and parole proceedings. In her spare time, she continues to volunteer with the Volunteer Lawyers Project, representing people appealing denials of unemployment assistance at administrative hearings. Sydney is also passionate about art and its intersection with social movements.
